A Relational and Anti-Oppressive Approach to Couples Treatment

The ethically practicing, relational therapist is grounded in anti-oppressive orientation and is committed to ongoing use of self that privileges deconstructing personal biases. With an ever present observing self, toward more clarity for tending to dynamics, power differentials and repetitive patterns, we explore working with relationships in psychotherapy.

Couples come to us entrenched in patterns that they have been “practicing” and thus deepening, for months and years. These patterns can be experienced as conflict, communication difficulties, trouble connecting and more. In order to impact folks’ cycles, we must work in the present to bring curiosity to and build capacity for, shifting the ways in which folks both express their needs and longings, and respond to the same in their partners.

A day long workshop for therapists looking to build and strengthen a relational, anti-oppressive frame for treatment with couples

WHAT TO EXPECT:

▷ Use of a relational lens, attachment theory, and a parts model, to explore building a collaborative frame that focuses on the “relationship as client"

▷ Theoretical and experiential strategies for assessment and intervention with couples, with attention to the therapist’s use of self in the unfolding dynamics

▷ Case examples that demonstrate interventions with couples that privilege anti-oppressive conceptualization, regulation and presence as access routes to change

Please join Meghan Reilly, LCSW and Richla Davis, LCPC, with several decades of combined experience, who have been teaching together in a variety of spaces for many years, for a lively and interactive exploration of relational, anti-oppressive couples treatment.
